This Success Quote Spoke To Me! I am not really one for inspirational quotes; not on t-shirts, not stenciled on walls and not framed in offices accompanying pictures of groups of people parachuting. Often times, in fact, they have the reverse effect on me and I find myself pouting like a petulant child. No, I will not “Just Do it” and I outright refuse to “Dance like no one is watching.” I read one the other day however that just really spoke to me and I wanted to share incase you needed a little thought for the day. The quote reads “Your success is directly proportional to the amount of times you say, ‘F*** it, I’ll figure it out’.”
Honestly, that one really made me think of all of the times I have just woman-ed up both personally and professionally to figure it out. When I speak at conferences and on panels, I commonly receive questions from the audience around ‘what books should I be reading’ or what HR Leaders am I following on social media. While all of that is great and needed, the ability to ‘figure it out’ is probably your most highly valued skill by your organization. This is a skill that can not be taught, it is mastered purely though practice. In our Leadership Series courses we teach new leaders about how to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. This is probably the closest thing you will be able to get to classroom learning of this skill.
I encourage you to take a moment and reflect on where you are now and what you had to ‘figure out’ in order to get you here. The next time a problem or opportunity presents itself, take a breath and figure out a way to make it happen. I assure you, your peers and boss will love you for it.
